Roberto DiMeo, 92, of Long Island, NY, passed away peacefully at home on May 7th, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family. Born in Naples, Italy on March 12, 1933, Roberto lived a full and vibrant life steeped in tradition, love, and joy.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Emilia DiMeo, with whom he shared a lifetime of devotion. Roberto leaves behind his cherished children: daughter Carmela DiMeo-Laskaris and son-in-law John Laskaris, and their son Roberto; son Salvatore, daughter-in-law Susanne, and their sons Luca and Giovanni; and son Bruno, along with his children Joseph and Lea.
Affectionately known as Nonno, Roberto will be remembered for his deep passion for family, his dedication to healthy, fresh cooking, and his unmatched love for tending his garden, fishing, and preserving the traditions of his Italian heritage. He found joy in jarring tomatoes, crafting homemade wine and marmalade, and entertaining guests with Italian opera and laughter. He especially loved summer days at the beach, fishing with a smile that lit up the shore.
Roberto was a man who lived life to the fullest, who loved deeply and gave generously. To know him was to love him—and his warmth, humor, and zest for life will never be forgotten.
A celebration of Roberto’s life will be held at Cassidy Funeral Home, Mineola on Friday, May 9 visiting hours 2-4pm and 7-9 pm. Mass at St Brigid’s Monday, May 12th at 9:45am.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor his legacy by sharing a home-cooked meal with loved ones, planting something in your garden, or simply raising a glass of homemade wine in his memory.
