Paul James Vogt, 58, of Mineola, New York, passed peacefully from this life on February 12, 2023. Paul was born on August 23, 1964, to John Joseph Vogt and Rosemary (Owens) Vogt. Paul is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 30 years, Deirdre (Cox) Vogt. He was predeceased by his parents, John & Rosemary.
He is also survived by his siblings Susan (Lehnes), Peter, and Margaret (Jaworski) and by his nieces and nephews, Alexandra, Jackie, Jack, Erika, Julia, and Christopher for whom he cared deeply.
Paul was raised in New Hyde Park and was the third of four children. Paul grew up as an active member of Notre Dame parish in New Hyde Park where he attended elementary school, was an alter boy, active in CYO sports and a member of Boy Scout Troop 544 where he made life long friends. He attended St. Mary’s Boys High School in Manhasset. After graduation he worked as an electronics technician.
Paul was diagnosed with Myotonic Dystrophy, a form of Muscular Dystrophy, as an adult. He fought the disease daily, never complained, and always had an exceptionally positive outlook on life. He never let the disease get to his wonderful personality and sense of humor. He cared deeply for his friends and family, he stayed in touch with everyone, and he was always interested in every aspect of their lives.
Paul's love of friends and family could only be matched by his love of the beach, the NY Mets, professional football and traveling to visit friends and family. He lived for football season and could talk for countless hours each Monday about Sunday's contests (and Monday's, and Thursday's!). He notably also loved visiting the extended Cox family in Dublin, Ireland where he enjoyed sipping the original Guinness.
Visitation will be held Friday, February 17, 2-5PM and 7-9PM at Cassidy Funeral Home, 156 Willis Avenue, Mineola, NY. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, February 18 at 10:30AM at Corpus Christi Church, 155 Garfield Avenue, Mineola. Burial to follow at St. Charles Cemetery in Farmingdale, NY.
