Listen to Obituary

It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of our beautiful Marisa DePalma Galindez, who passed at home in the arms of her beloved husband, John Galindez.

Marisa is survived by her devoted husband, John, with whom she shared 23 beautiful years of marriage. She is predeceased by her beloved parents, brother Donny and baby son Thomas. She is survived by her dearly beloved brother James and his wife Linda, sister-in-law Marlene, her stepchildren Katie and Joel, Christopher and Patrick, brothers-in-law Dave and Dennis, sisters-in-law Amy, Donna and Marla dearest niece Jenna and her husband Matthew, their children Rose and Matthew, darling nephew James and his wife Stephanie and their children Stella, Enzo and Leo, as well as many devoted sister/brother cousins as she loved to call them.

Marisa was born in Brooklyn, NY to Rose Longobucco and Pasquale DePalma, and to two older brothers Dominick and James. She was born into a loving Italian American family, surrounded by dear grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins, who grew up more like siblings. Marisa and her family, whom she dearly loved, embraced holidays, birthdays and just Sundays with exuberance, joy and delicious homemade Italian food!

Marisa, ever hardworking and diligent, attended public schools in Whitestone, Queens, and obtained her BA in Education and her Masters Degree in Education with a Specialty in Reading from Queens College.

Marisa naturally excelled as a dedicated and beloved teacher with her open heart, kind spirit and generous soul, teaching young children for 18 years at PS 165Q and 17 years at Hewlett Elementary School. She inspired countless students to embrace learning with curiosity and confidence, creating a classroom where children felt excited to grow. To her colleagues and friends, she was a steadfast source of kindness and support, always celebrating others’ joys and offering unwavering compassion during difficult times. She was a confidant to all she loved.

Marisa retired in 2017 and was a substitute teacher, hospital volunteer, avid beach-goer, traveler with John and loved to swim, walk, dance and of course, shop. She was the bright light of her family and friends, cooking, entertaining and throwing parties for them all.

She was a devoted member of St. Aidan’s Church and often attended Corpus Christi Church to visit Our Lady of Fatima.

May Marisa’s light continue to guide each of you, and may the peace of God, which she now knows fully, rest upon your hearts.
