Maria was born the youngest of five children to Filomena and Antonio on Good Friday, April 15, 1927. She grew up in Marigliano, Naples, Italy, and was the first woman to drive a car, which made her a bit of a local celebrity. During World War II, she administered insulin and medical injections to the elderly. She became a seamstress at the age of twelve. In 1955, Maria married the love of her life, Antonio Auriemma, a tailor. Together they owned a tailor shop in Marigliano. On September 7, 1961, Maria and Antonio docked in New York with their two daughters, Giovanna and Filomena. By February of 1962, they had purchased their family home in Mineola, NY, and opened their own tailor shop, Tony’s Tailor, in Williston Park, NY. After taking night classes for English, Maria obtained her U.S. citizenship in the early 70s. Tony’s Tailor became a well-respected family owned and operated business for 50 years. She was a proud member of the Corpus Christi Rosary Altar Society and the Italian American Community of Saint Brigid’s in Westbury, NY. She was a devoted Catholic who prayed the Rosary several times a day, she prayed for her family and the souls of the departed. She was especially devoted to San Padre Pio. Maria retired at the age of 85 and has spent the last ten years of her life surrounded by her ever-growing family. She is survived by her four daughters, Giovanna (Enzo Pisano), Filomena (Alfonso Sposito), Anna (Mario Bevilacqua), and Maria (David Forte). She was Nonna Maria to her eleven grandchildren, Mena, Marco, Giuseppe, Francesca, Antonio, Maria Antonietta, Matthew, Vincent, Alexia, Sebastian, and Giuliana; she was also great-grandmother to Nicholas, and his soon to be baby sister, Scarlett. Maria was called to God's Kingdom and left this earth while surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, August 28, 2022. May Our Blessed Mother watch over and protect her and may she rest in eternal peace. 'C'a Maronna t'accumpagna
