Manuel J. Valente, 89, passed peacefully on May 4th, 2021 while in the company of his family at his home in Mineola, Long Island. Manuel was born in Murtosa, Portugal on December 29th, 1931, and immigrated to the United States on November 9th, 1947 at the age of 15. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in October 1951 and was stationed in Atlanta Georgia and Stuttgart Germany and was honorably discharged from service in September of 1954. Manuel held various jobs as a carpenter for different companies and along with his father and brother Jack, started Valente Contracting Corp in November of 1957. He was a proud member of the Mineola Portuguese Center, former President and along with his late brother Jack honored as Men of the Year in November 1998. He was also a founding member of the Long Island Portuguese Lions Club and had served on the Corpus Christi Church pastoral Council. He will be forever loved and will be greatly missed. Manuel is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Maria Julia (nee, Oliveira) Valente, he was a devoted father to five children, Manny Valente, Mimi (Manuel) Fernandes, Gloria (Alfredo) Figueiredo, Joseph (Ruthann) Valente, John (Lisa Dalfonso, Esq) Valente; cherished grandfather to Nicole Figueiredo, Mia Valente, Dr. Nina Valente, Joseph Valente, John Paul Valente and Julia Valente In lieu of flowers, donations could be made to either of the following; Long Island Portuguese Lions Club, P.O.
