November 19, 1937 –October 3, 2024

Joseph F. Carney, Jr. “Chuck”, 86 of Mineola. Beloved husband of Gloria. Devoted

father of Kathleen Kille (Samuel) and Erin Gurzynski (Adam). Loving Grandpa to Emily and

Samuel Kille, and Adam, Cecelia, and Matthew Gurzynski. Predeceased by his brother John

“Jack” Carney (Theresa). Also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Joseph was a great lover of animals. He spent much of his childhood visiting his

grandparent’s small farm in Garden City, where he raised rabbits and won many ribbons at the

Mineola Fair. Joseph also learned to train and drive harness horses there. His years training

and driving horses were some of his happiest memories. Joseph spent over 40 years in the

paper business with Diamond International, Alling and Cory, and finally Cherry Lane

Lithographing Corp. Joseph was a devoted employee, who rarely took a sick day. He was finally

convinced to retire at the age of 70 to spend more time at home with his family.

Joseph was a lifelong parishioner of Corpus Christi Church in Mineola, where he served

as a trustee for a period of time. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, Corpus

Christi Council #2502.

Joseph was an avid reader of the New York Times. He loved good music, especially The

Beatles and The Rolling Stones.

In 1986, Joseph convinced Gloria to purchase a lake house on Hedges Lake in

Cambridge, New York. The family spent many happy summers together there in the years to

follow, with the many friends they made in the lake community.

Joseph was a devoted husband and father who provided a secure, loving, and faith filled

home for his family.
