John Timothy Cloghessy

John Timothy Cloghessy, age 75 of Mineola NY passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Monday, September 15, 2025. He was born on January 13, 1950 in Chicago Heights, IL to parents John and Valarie (Klein) Cloghessy. John grew up in Dyer, Indiana and graduated from Bishop Noll High School class of 1968. He dedicated 45 years to a career in sports broadcasting, which began at St. Ambrose University where he graduated in 1972. From the sideline with interviews and play-by-play, to on-air Sports Anchor, he was a master of the microphone. John took his talents from Coldwater, MI to Davenport, IA to New York City, where he was bestowed the prestigious Edward R. Murrow Award for his 2001 sports special, Perspective: From High School to High Stakes (the 2001 NBA Draft).

John was a family man who enjoyed watching his kids, his grandkids, and everyone else’s kids playing sports and performing. He could be heard cheering from a mile away or chatting up with anyone in his presence. A faithful man, John volunteered his time and talents to the community as a lector at church.

John is survived by his wife of 50 years Linda; his five children: Kathy Granados, Patrick (Anne) Cloghessy, Erin (Ray) Frantz, Maureen (Dave) DeLuca, and John (Arielle) Cloghessy; 13 grandchildren: Kara, Addison, Timmy, Luke, Sean, David Jr., Lily, Summer, Abbie, Valarie, Victoria, Joey, and Rylee; brothers: Mark (Sharon) Cloghessy, Mike (Clare) Cloghessy, Kevin (Julie) Cloghessy, and sisters: Colleen (Robert) Stenslik, Florence (Mike) Anderson and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents John and Valarie Cloghessy. Visitation will take place on Sunday, September 21, 2025 from 2:00 - 4:00pm and 7:00 - 9:00pm at Cassidy Funeral Home 156 Willis Avenue, Mineola, NY. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, September 22, 2025 at 10:30am at Corpus Christi Church 155 Garfield Avenue Mineola, NY.
