John Joseph Carroll Sr. born in Queens, NY and a longtime resident of Mineola, NY passed away peacefully at the age 89 onSeptember 9, 2025. Beloved husband of the late Patricia Carroll for 59 years; loving father of Jennifer (Owen Sutton), John Jr, Veronica, and Lawrence (Lauren). John leaves behind five beautiful grandchildren, Owen, Luke, Patrick, Dylan and Julia and two great grandchildren Clarke and Rory; dear brother to lateDaniel (Patricia) and sister to late Claire (James) Leedham and his sister-in-law Jean (the late Alfred) Christoffer; he will be missed by many relatives in Ireland along with his nephews, nieces and friends here in the United States. He was predeceased by his parents Daniel and Elizabeth Carroll, brother Daniel Carroll, sister Claire Leedham, brother-in-law, Charles Spears, and sister-in-law Mary Jane Watkins.John served in the United States Airforce from 1957 – 1960 as a radio operator. His career spanned over 30 years working for banks and aero-defense companies in New York and Long Island. After retiring, he worked at a counseling center in Mineola helping many people with their sobriety. John was an active member of the Irish American Society for many years in Mineola working in the Leisure Club and spearheaded Veteran’s Celebration every year. However, John’s greatest love was Music. There isn’t one person that wouldn’t know that about him. His music collection is his prized possession, and his children, nephews, nieces and friends can’t hear one song without bringing them back to the many backyard parties. The first words he will hear in heaven is from his wife Patty “John turn down the music!” which you know he won’t, and he is just getting started.
