Jacqueline Sherokow (Jackie) Carway passed way on December 23, 2025. She is survived by her husband John and her two children Jacqueline Ann Carway of Mariposa, CA and Brian Carway and his spouse Victoria Riese Carway MD of Sands Point, NY. She is also survived by her two sisters Carol Santana and Elaine Thibault and four grandchildren. Michael,Gabriella, Callan and Aila.
Jacqueline Marie Sherokow Carway was born on September 14, 1941 to Al and Marjorie Sherokow in Manhattan. Her father worked for a meat purveyor and her mother was a homemaker. They moved to Mineola), NY in the early 1950s where Jackie attended Corpus Christi grammar school and then Mineola High School. After High School she went to work for the United Nations in the Economic and Social Council. While there she had the opportunity to go to Switzerland for a three month conference of her section in the UN Secretariat. Upon returning she joined the Mineola Young Republican Club. During a trip to the Poconos she met her husband John. They were married 2 years later in 1966. After their marriage, Jackie went to work for the Town of North Hempstead Building Department all the while studying at Nassau Community College. She then juggled a full time job As Executive Director of the NYS Republican Women’s Federation and as a full time student at Stoney Brook University She then attended Law School at Hostra University while attending to the motherhood of a daughter, Jacqueline Ann and a baby boy, Brian Alexander. She had her hands full but graduated with honors as a Juris Doctor (JD)in 1977Shortly after graduating she and Adrienne Flipse Hausch formed a law firm, Carway and Flipse where she was managing partner. Jackie was a family lawyer, attending to many of the legal matters affecting families, including real estate, adoption, domestic relations and wills and estates. She continued to be involved in local politics and served several years as the Republican Leader of Mineola and member of the Executive Committee of the Nassau County Republican Committee. Culminating her career she was appointed as an Associate Village Justice of the Mineola Justice Court where she served a four year term until retiring shortly after in 2017. Jackie had a full life of dedication to the law and service to the community. She had many friends, keeping in touch with many she had known since childhood. Jackie had a special place in her heart for the Girl Scouts. She was a Girl Scout Leader for over 14 years. She started out with the Brownies and several of the girls continued with Scouting all the way up to Senior level. She especially enjoyed taking the girls on trips to both local cultural events and Broadway shows. Jackie became interested in the Long Island Chrysthanthemum Society and she and John began growing mums for show, taking home several Blue and Red Ribbons over the course of several years. Not being satisfied with one artistic endeavor, she took a quilting course in adult ed and soon after became the Co-Founder of the Evening Star Quilters Guild which has grown considerably over the years.
