Frank Hugh McGurk

Frank Hugh McGurk, 90, passed away peacefully on May 6, 2026, at Cornerstone Hospice in The Villages, Florida.

Born on March 11, 1936, in Manhattan, New York, Frank was the second child of Hugh and Mary Ann McGurk. He grew up with a lifelong love of learning and reading. As a boy, he would sit and read the encyclopedia while polishing off an entire loaf of bread and a jar of peanut butter. That passion for knowledge never faded. For nearly his entire adult life, Frank read The New York Times cover to cover every day.

Frank graduated from C.W. Post College and later served his country during the Korean War. He was a proud New Yorker who spent much of his life on Long Island. A passionate advocate for Irish republican causes, Frank took a keen interest in Ireland's political history and maintained a strong connection to his family's Irish roots.

A confirmed bachelor until 1981, Frank married the love of his life, Rosetta McDonald. Together they built a life in Floral Park, New York, before retiring to Florida. Their years together were filled with travel, especially to Ireland, where Frank delighted in visiting family. His Irish relatives affectionately referred to him as “Frank the Yank,” a nickname he wore with pride and good humor.

Frank was a devoted Boston Red Sox fan from childhood, inspired by his admiration for the legendary Ted Williams. Whether following the Red Sox, enjoying a cold Budweiser in earlier years, or a vodka cranberry later in life, Frank appreciated life's simple pleasures and good company. “Happy Days,” he would say as he raised a glass with family and friends.

Frank and Rose hosted many Thanksgiving gatherings that brought together generations of the McGurk, McGuinty, and Jacobsen families. His hospitality, sharp wit, and storytelling made those celebrations memorable for all who attended.

Frank is survived by his beloved sister, Mary Elizabeth Jacobsen, and his brother, Arthur McGurk. He was predeceased by his sister, Alice McGuinty, and his brother, Edward McGurk.

He was also a cherished uncle to sixteen nieces and nephews, all of whom will remember his generosity, humor, and unwavering interest in their lives.

Frank will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
