Edith D'Andrea Riehl (Eda)
March 6, 1924 – June 12, 2025
At the age 101, she peacefully passed away on June 12, 2025, joining her beloved husband, Frederick Riehl, in heaven. For the past four years, she was a resident of Sunharbor Manor in Roslyn Heights. Before that, she resided with her daughter and grandson in Mineola.
Born in New York City on March 6, 1924, Eda was raised in the heart of Corona, Queens, as part of an immigrant Italian family. She was the second youngest of four children, with three brothers: Anthony, Victor, and Louie. Her father was told to move to Corona from NYC because it was the “country”.
Eda was known for her infectious laugh that will be heard for years. Her favorite stories were about dancing in New York City, a time she remembered fondly, and which she loved to share with anyone who would listen. At her nursing home, she had been affectionately nicknamed her "Miss New York," a testament to her lively personality.
Eda's favorite book was A Traveller in Southern Italy by H.V. Morton. She loved the Big Band era of music, Monet, and the old movies with Gene Kelly, and Spencer Tracy. Her heroine was Amelia Earhart. She also loved Hello Kitty. She loved spending time in Connecticut with her niece Terry.
She is survived by her daughter, Tracy, and grandson, Lucas, both of whom she adored and whose lives she shaped with her love, wisdom, and laughter.
Eda’s joyful spirit and legacy of love will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her laughter and stories will continue to echo in the hearts of her family and friends
