Charles Fred Luning

Charlie Luning (Chuck) passed away peacefully in his sleep on Wednesday morning at the age of 81.  He was a happy, friendly man who enjoyed his family and loved spending time with his grandchildren. He was married to his devoted wife Carol for 55 years and had three amazing children (Donna, Diane and Jimmy) and  four  talented grandchildren (Megan, Melissa, Sean and Danny).  He loved going for walks, swimming at the Mineola Pool and activities at both CW Post and Adelphi.  Charlie served four years in the US Coast Guard. He worked as a store manager for Woolworth, TSS , Pergament and “retired “ only to get another job  at the Village of Mineola. He would wake up at the crack of dawn to empty the parking meters.  Chuck loved Schroon Lake, the beach and fishing.  He also loved to paint, make sculptures out of shells and completed countless puzzles.  Nothing could stop Charlie from enjoying life.  Although he walked with a cane and later a walker, he was known to build rabbit cages, patios, move boxes and do everything that he wanted to do. Everyone is going to miss Charlie and his Big Smile, mixed words and perseverance.
