Arlene Grossjung, age 87 passed away peacefully in Ohio on November 23rd, 2023 after a long
illness with Multiple Sclerosis. Arlene was born July 31st, 1936 in Mineola NY and graduated
from Mineola High school. She was active in 4H during her childhood and teen years and won
many medals for sewing in the yearly Long Island Fairs in Mineola, NY. Arlene was a bank
teller, mother/homemaker and school crossing guard for Nassau County. She planned many
camping vacations for her family each summer throughout the USA and took her children
frequently to Jones Beach in the summer. Arlene and her husband Bill retired and spent 26
years together in Daytona Beach, Florida enjoying the warm weather, spending time with
friends, traveling in their camper and taking cruises to the Caribbean.
Arlene enjoyed the ocean, being out in nature, gardening, watching autobiography movies and
being with friends. She will be remembered for her (resilience), constant ability to recover and
rebound from challenges and setbacks from her MS related illnesses. Arlene always remained
positive, open and flexible and willing to adapt to any change that could help her continue to
stay active and pursue her dreams. Arlene was faithful and active in her Catholic religion and
believed prayer and receiving the Eucharist helped her grow strong in her faith to keep God's
commandments.
Arlene was preceded in death by both her parents, Arthur and Loretta Beck, her husband of 65
years, William F. Grossjung and her youngest son, Glenn Grossjung. Caring mother of Wendy
Brolly, Bart Grossjung and Glenn Grossjung, Grandmother to nine grandchildren and seven
great grandchildren and longtime friend Marilyn Larsen.
The family wishes to express their gratitude and sincere appreciation to Sunrise Nursing Home
staff and Traditions Hospice staff for their loving and caring attention for Arlene.
Mass of Christian Burial 11a.m. Thursday, November 30th
at St. Eugene Catholic Church in Munroe Falls.
Burial will take place in Westbury, NY.
