We began...

In Brooklyn in the 1880's with John J. Gallagher Funeral Home was originally located on North 8th Street. The second location was later established on Aberdeen Street in Brooklyn.

In the 1920's, John's son Arthur continued the family tradition by establishing a Funeral Home in Richmond Hill, Queens. The Arthur A. Gallagher Funeral Home was later owned and managed by Arthur's daughter Elizabeth and her husband William H. Cassidy from 1950-1986. Located on the service road of the Van Wyck Expressway this facility served the community for over 60 years.



During July, 1974 the Cassidy Family purchased the James Newman Funeral Home of Mineola, NY. Cassidy Funeral Home has been providing families with caring funeral services at our current location for more than 30 yrs. The Funeral Home is operated today by 4th generation Funeral Director William H. Cassidy, 5th generation Funeral Director William J. Cassidy, and Funeral Director Stephenie Nowak-Bernius. We are located in Mineola, we are also convenient to the communities of Williston Park, East Williston, Garden City, Albertson, Garden City Park, New Hyde Park, Carle Place, and Westbury. The Cassidy Funeral Home offers a wide variety of services to accommodate all.

A 1970 graduate of The Niagara University College of Business, he has been a licensed NYS Funeral Director since 1971. His US Naval service included deployments on board the USS JFK during the Vietnam era. A member of Corpus Christi council #2502, also a Past Grand Knight of Council #5504 Knights of Columbus. Mr. Cassidy currently serves as the financial committee of Corpus Christi Church.

William J. Cassidy

A graduate of Nassau Community College Business Program 2006, and Mortuary Science Program 2008. William is a Licensed Funeral Director as of 2009. He is a 5th generation Funeral Director for our family. Served in the military as an Army Ranger from 2001 to 2004, he had two deployments in support of Operation Enduring Freedom to Afghanistan.  William is also an active member of Albertson VFW Post #5253 and the American Legion Post #144 in Williston Park.

Stephenie Nowak-Bernius

A 1999 graduate of St. John's University with a major in Funeral Service Administration and a minor in business. She graduated from American Academy McAllister Institute, and has been a licensed New York State Funeral Director since 2000. Stephenie is a member of DMORT Region 2 (Disaster Mortuary Operational Response Team), a certified grief counselor, and a member of the New York State Funeral Directors Association Family Assistance Commission.

Our funeral home takes great pride in our commitment to the families we serve.
